High Remembrance: Reimagined

Tulsa’s Unwed Sailor make richly melodic, bass-forward compositions that fuse post-rock, punk, new wave, krautrock, and goth pop.  During sessions for their eleventh LP, High Remembrance (2026), bassist/songwriter Johnathon Ford and drummer Matt Putman experimented with stripping back each song to its synth and electronic elements, and immediately heard the potential for a set of parallel versions.  High Remembrance : Reimagined transforms its source material into a blissed-out suite that incorporates everything from four-on-the-floor house rhythms, to melodic IDM, to starry-eyed electro pop and oceans of deep, harmonic ambience.

“We took a lot of my bass melodies and reconstructed them as lead synth lines, adding samples of my voice and other found vocals,” Ford explains, “and elsewhere we were inspired by lush, first-generation analog ambient and early 2000s Euro club music.”  Primarily crafted by the band themselves, except for a stunning contribution from post-rock veteran Bundy K. Brown (Tortoise, Gastr del Sol), the tones and textures may be consistently surprising, but given the group’s historically voracious and open-minded approach, the upheaval feels beautifully inevitable.
